Yorkshire is one of the most dynamic and significant economic areas
in the UK. It is home to a population of two million people, with
a business base of 58,000 (Inter-Departmental Business Register)
and 100,000 self-employed.
It plays a key role as the driver of the Yorkshire & Humber region.
Leeds, the regional capital, has enjoyed fast growth and is firmly established
as the leading financial and commercial centre outside London.
West Yorkshire exhibits a number of key characteristics which makes it one
of the most economically important areas of the UK. These include:
